Drawing Pins & Push Pins

Invented at the end of the 18th Century, drawing pins & push pins were originally created to attach notices to school doors. Many now refer to them as notice board pins. Since then, they have evolved to become one of the most versatile accessories in offices, schools, and homes across the country. The first incarnations were made of steel and glass and were allegedly responsible for the wearing away of the wood on gothic doors. Today, drawing pins tend to be made from brass, while push pins often consist of the metal pin, capped with a plastic head.

Documents and maps

Drawing pins & push pins are most commonly used as notice board pins to display notices and documents on a board, which tend to be made from cork. However, they are also a popular accessory in schools, allowing teachers to easily display their students’ work, such as pictures and posters.

Drawing pins are better suited to hanging larger items, as their wider, domed heads offer a greater surface area to press down on, enabling greater ‘push power’ and purchase. However, these pins have found another lease of life, particularly on maps. Often used to mark locations visited or areas of interest. Their coloured, plastic heads allow mapping to be colour-coded for easy reference, according to the information needed. Our collection contains plastic-headed push pins in a range of colours.

Keeping things pinned down

However, drawing pins & push pins don’t have to be relegated to walls. Many architects and designers still use them to fix drawings and sketches to design boards. This ensures that the diagrams are fixed in place and won’t slip at a critical moment. The Avansas range contains packets containing between 30 and 50 pins, allowing you to buy the amount and type that best suits your needs. Whether you want a single packet or to buy in bulk, we can offer a next working day delivery service and competitive pricing.
